Half the Lab Work, Same Paint Performance
Introduction
A leading European supplier to the paints and coatings industry used MaterialsZone to accelerate decorative-paint reformulation across multiple R&D sites. The team needed to replace and optimize key pigments and fillers while maintaining strict performance requirements for colour, gloss, opacity, scrub resistance, and crack resistance. MaterialsZone applied an AI-guided optimization process built on the customer’s historical formulation and lab data to identify promising candidates and continuously improve predictions as new results were generated. The approach reduced the number of physical formulation trials by 56% while maintaining the required performance, and in a follow-on cost project helped qualify a formulation roughly 10% cheaper than the existing one.
